Wash, Wash, Wash Your Hands (Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Wash, wash, wash your hands (rub hands together)
Wash your hands today
Rub and scrub, and scrub and rub
And germs go down the drain (swipe hands to the side)

Five Little Monkeys

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed (bounce 5 fingers)
One fell off and bumped his head (tap head)
Momma called the doctor (phone to ear)
And the doctor said “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!” (shake finger)

I’ve Got Five Boogers (Tune: He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands)

I was very apprehensive about doing this song, I personally thought it was hilarious and I knew the kids would be but I wasn’t sure how my parents would feel about it. In the end they parents were good sports and sang along. The kids just loved the fact that they were singing about boogers. Miss Sarah, the originator of this song, says that she gave the children tissues to fake sneeze into, my kids are pretty young (mostly 2) and I was afraid that they would actually try to blow their noses so we just pretend sneezed into our elbows. And yes I did create a flannel board for this, how often do you get to make boogers?

I’ve got five boogers in my nose
I’ve got five boogers in my nose
I’ve got five boogers in my nose
I better give it a blow

Aaah-aaah-chooo

Band-Aids

I made felt band-aids and gave each child one, first I told them they had boo boos on different parts of their body and they had to put the band-aid on it. Next I called each color up and had them put a band-aid on our sick (sad looking) puppy.

If You’re Sick and You Know It

If you’re sick and you know it clap your hands
…stomp your feet
…give a sneeze
…cry boo hoo

How it Went:It’s that time of year were the sniffles and sneezes prevail! I thought I would give a little fun story time education to my little ones and remind them to wash their hands, and cough/sneeze into their elbows. Overall the kids really enjoyed this theme, I was pleasantly surprised. All of the books I read were big hits, many of the parents awwwed during “Don’t You Feel Well Sam”  and “Llama Llama Home with Mama.” While the adults preferred the calmer reads, the kids looooved “Barn Sneeze.” I have an app on my phone that has different animal noises, when each animal is shown on the page I played their sound and then asked the kids how they thought that animal sneezed. After the first animal they quickly got the hang of it and they were all mooing, neighing, baaing and sneezing into their elbows.
