Storytime: Bears

Books

“A Very Curious Bear” by Tony Mitton
“Where’s My Teddy” by Jez Alborough
“Bears on Chairs” by Shirley Parenteau
“Old Bear” by Kevin Henkes

Sleepy Bear (Tune: Where is Thumbkin)

Where is bear? Where is bear?
(hide stuffed bear behind back)
Here I am, here I am
(bring bear out)
How are you this winter?
Very tired, thank you
Go to sleep, go to sleep
(yawn and have bear snore)
(Tell children to yell WAKE UP BEAR and repeat)

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear

Teddy bear, teddy bear turn around
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground
Teddy bear, teddy bear reach up high
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch the sky
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch your knees
Teddy bear, teddy bear sit down please

If You’re a Bear and You Know You It

If you’re a panda bear and you know it clap your paws
If you’re a panda bear and you know it clap your paws
If you’re a panda bear and you know it then you’re face will surely show it
If you’re a panda bear and you know it clap your paws
…If you’re a polar bear and you know it show your teeth
…If you’re a grizzly bear and you know it growl real loud

A  Bear

A bear eats honey (pretend to eat)
He thinks it’s yummy
In his tummy (rub stomach)
But the bees don’t think it’s funny
BUZZZ (wiggle fingers)

Five in the Bed

There were five in the bed
And the little one said
“Roll over, roll over” (roll arms)
So  they all rolled over and one fell out

(count down)

There was one in the bed
And the little one said
“Ahhh, goodnight!”

Colored Bears

If you have a (color) bear,
a (color) bear, a (color) bear
If you have a (color) bear,
bring it to the board

How it Went: Unfortunately this is the storytime that never was. I had it all planned out and ready to go but it was a gloomy foggy day and no one showed up for the program. I am still including it on the blog because I love bear storytimes! I’m sure I’ll pull this plan out again to use.

  1. just found your blog…love the snowman flannelboard, nana to two little ones. Purchased Brontorina from your recommendation. Love it! Look forward to reading some of your older posts too.
