Storytime: Fish

Books

“The Pout-Pout Fish” by Deborah Diesen
“Ten Little Fish” by Audrey Wood
“The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark” by Ken Geist

Catch a Fish (Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Catch, catch, catch a fish
Hook it on your line
Reel it, reel it, reel it in,
This one will be mine
(pretend to fish)

Did You Ever See a Fishy (Tune: Did You Ever See a Lassie)

Did you ever see a fishy, a fishy, a fishy (hold palms together)
Did you ever see a fishy, swim this way and that (wiggle palms like fish from side to side)
Swim this way and that way and that way and this way
Did you ever see a fishy, swim this way and that

Once I Caught a Fish Alive

One, two, three, four, five
(hold up fingers)

Once I caught a fish alive
(put palms together and wiggle them)
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten
(hold up fingers)

Then I let it go again
(make throwing motion)

Why did you let it go?
Because it bit my finger so
(shake hand)
Which finger did it bite?
This little finger on my right
(wiggle pinky)

Five Little Fishies

Five little fishies swimming in the sea
(swimming motion)

Teasing Mr. Shark “You can’t catch me”
(wiggle fingers on sides of head)
Along comes Mr. Shark as quiet as can be
(whisper, hold palms together and move them)
And snatches that fishy right out of the sea
(clap hands)

(count down)

How it Went: “The Pout-Pout Fish” is always a crowd favorite. This week I had a child who memorized the book and was saying it along with me!
