Books

“The Doorbell Rang” by Pat Hutchins
“Who Ate All the Cookie Dough” by Karen Beaumont
“The Cow Loves Cookies” by Karma Wilson

Pat-a-Cake

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker’s man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a B
And put it in the oven for baby and me

I’m Making Cookie Dough

I’m making cookie dough
(hold out arms in a circle)
Round and round the beaters go
(roll hands)
Add some flour from a cup
(shake a pretend cup)

Stir and stir the batter up
(make stirring motion)
Roll the, cut them nice and neat
(rolling pin motion)
Put them on a cookie sheet
(hold arms out flat)
Bake them, count them, 1-2-3
(count on fingers)
Serve them to my friends to eat
(pretend bite)

Four Gingerbread Men

Four gingerbread men sat on a tray
(hold up 4 fingers)
The firs tone said, “Let’s run away!”
(pretend to run)
The second one said, “Where will we run?”
(shrug shoulders)
The third one said, “We’ll have some fun!”
(pump fist into the air)
The fourth one said, “We’ll be eaten if we stay,”
(pretend to eat)
So the four gingerbread men all ran away
(hold up 4 fingers and hide behind back)

Five Little Cookies

Five little cookies with frosting galore
Mother ate the pink one, then there were four.
Four little cookies, two and two, you see.
Father ate the green one, then there were three.
Three little cookies, but before I knew
Sister ate the blue one, then there were two
Two little cookies, oh, what fun
Brother ate the orange one, then there was one
one little cookie, watch em run
I ate the red one, then there were none!

How it Went: Each cookie for the flannel board is two parts, the cookie and the frosting/sprinkles. I always leave the flannel board out after storytime for children to explore and they had so much fun pretending to frost and eat the cookies. This was a great theme that got everyone hungry for cookies!
