I’m a Little Cowboy (Tune: I’m a Little Teapot)

I’m a little cowboy, here is my hat (tap head)
Here are my spurs (tap feet)
And here at my chaps (pat legs)
When I get up, I work all day (jump up)
Get on my horse and ride away (gallop)

Ten Little Horses

Ten little horses rode through town (hold up 10 fingers)
Five were white (hold up 5 fingers)
And five were brown (hold up 5 fingers)
They galloped up (raise arms)
They galloped down (lower arms)
And they they galloped out of town (hide hands behind back)

My Little Horsey (Tune: Shortin’ Bread)

My little horsey loves running, running (run in place)
My little horsey loves running fast

(repeat with)
Jumping high
Neighing loud
Spinning around
Shaking quick

I Gave My Horse

I gave my horse an apple
And she gave me a neigh (neigh)
I gave my horse a carrot
And she turned her head this way (shake head)
I gave my horse a lump of sugar
She gave me a smile (smile)
And took me on a ride that last half a mile (tap thighs)

How it Went: I have a very active group of mostly two year olds. Sometimes I have a difficult time keeping their attention but not today! The parents and children really enjoyed the books. “Are You a Horse” was a crowd favorite, children loved yelling no and parents thought the ending was hilarious. Children also loved “Clip-Clop” because I asked the parents to bounce children on their lap during the story. At first I was apprehensive about a horse themed storytime but I’m very happy with how it went.
