Storytime: Flowers

Books

“Fran’s Flower” by Lisa Bruce
“Planting a Rainbow” by Lois Ehlert
“Plant the Tiny Seed” by Christie Matheson

Ten Little Flowers (tune: Ten Little Indians)

1 little, 2 little, 3 little flowers
4 little, 5 little, 6 little flowers
7 little, 8 little, 9 little flowers
10 little flowers in the spring

Give them rain and lots of sunshine
(wiggle fingers down, circle arms over head)
Give them rain and lots of sunshine
Give them rain and lots of sunshine
So they’ll grow up big and tall

Five Pretty Flowers

Five pretty flowers in the meadow grew
“Hmmm” I said “I bet they smell pretty too!”
I bent down to sniff but they tickled my nose
Ah-chooo
Oh no, away one flower blows

(count down)

Planting Time (tune: Row, Row, Row your Boat)

Dig, dig, dig the earth
(pretend to dig)
Then you plant the seeds
(pretend to plant)
A gentle rain
(wiggle fingers down)
The bright sunshine
(circle arms overhead)
And flowers you will see
(open arms wide)

How it Went: March 12th is Plant a Flower Day (you would have never known it with the weather we’ve been getting). In honor of it I read books all about flowers, we talked about how you plant flowers and actually planted some in pots. We only ended up reading 2 books today instead of 3. Even though we didn’t read all 3 books the kids really enjoyed the 2 that we read and they loved the songs. I had to repeat the songs several times.
