Storytime: Owls

Books

“Owl Babies” by Martin Waddell
“I’m Not Cute” by Jonathan Allen
“‘Wow’ Said the Owl” by Tim Hopgood

Wide-Eyed Owl

There’s a wide-eyed owl
(circle eyes with hands)
With a pointed nose
(touch nose)
Two pointed ears
(touch ears)
And claws for toes
(hold hands up like claws)
He lives way up in the tree
(point up)
and when he looks at you
(point to children)
He flaps his wings
(flap arms)
And says whooo whooo

Five Little Owls

Five little owls sitting in a tree
One flew away, how many do you see?

(count down)

Like an Owl (tune: London Bridge)

Flap your wings and fly around, fly around, fly around
Flap your wings and fly around, just like an owl
Open your eyes big and wide, big and wide, big and wide
Open your eyes big and wide, just like an owl
Land on the ground and hop along, hop along, hop along
Land on the ground and hop along, just like an owl
Turn your head and say whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo
Turn your head and say whoo, whoo, whoo, just like an owl

How it Went: “Owl Babies” is one of my favorite books and it was a real hit in today’s storytime. I had two very hyper children today and their energy was contagious. By the end of the storytime there were a lot of little owls running around! I ended up playing music and just letting the kids jump around.
