Children's Programs

Easter Egg Hunt

I’ve been hosting Easter egg hunts at the library for several years now but realized I have yet to put it on the blog! The Easter egg hunt is for children birth to 5 years old and is held on the Friday before Easter. I have program the during the day while older siblings are in school.

Activities

There are several activities out for families as they come in, then we make the craft, read a story and go on the egg hunt!

Easter Bunny Flannel Board

Children were able to change the bunny’s facial expression, add bows and more!

Easter Basket Toss

Children tossed bean bags into Easter baskets. The baskets were different sizes.

Easter Egg Color Match

A very talented co-worker of mine painted this giant basket with eggs. I put velcro on the painted eggs and on matching Easter eggs. Children then matched the eggs.

Craft

For the craft we made puff paint eggs. I had parents mix the puff paint themselves to see how easy it is to recreate at home. All you have to do is mix shaving cream, glue and food coloring (no measurements),

 Egg Hunt

I am able to host the activities in a large community room and have the eggs hidden in the Children’s Department. I have a staff member hide the eggs after the program starts, this way there are no early egg hunters. It is also a good idea to have paper bags for children who did not bring a basket. In each egg is a candy or a sticker. Make sure you know how many eggs are hidden! Sometimes you have to put restrictions on the number of eggs collected by each child to ensure that everyone gets some (there’s always that 1 child who runs around and grabs as many as they can). After they hunt down the eggs the kids enjoy sitting down and opening up their eggs to see what’s inside. I find that some parents will give the eggs back, which is very helpful when you hold the program yearly, while others will keep the eggs. I leave what they do up to the families. This program is always a big hit and I hope I have inspired someone else to do an Easter Egg Hunt!
